Dr. (Mrs.) N. Kalaiselvi, born on 5 February 1967, is the first woman to lead the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) as Director General and also serves as Secretary, DSIR. A distinguished scientist with over 25 years of research experience, her work focuses on electrochemical power systems, including lithium and sodium-based batteries, supercapacitors, and innovative electrode and electrolyte materials. |

She has made significant contributions to the development of high-energy lithium batteries, sodium-ion and lithium-sulfur systems, polymer and ionic liquid electrolytes, and advanced materials for e-mobility. Dr. Kalaiselvi has led major national projects, including the Rs. 68.54 crore MULTIFUN initiative, graded “Excellent” by its review committee. An alumnus of Madurai Kamaraj University, Government Arts College Coimbatore, and Annamalai University (Ph.D. in Chemistry), she continues to drive research in sustainable and indigenous energy storage technologies, playing a key role in India’s National Mission for Electric Mobility. |
